Kong Chow Wui Koon

  Introduction
Kong Chow Wui Koon (Gangzhou Hui Guan) is a clan association founded in 1840 at Upper Chin Chew Street (known colloquially as tau foo gai). When the lease expired in 1922, the clansmen rebuilt the association at the current address, which was completed in 1925.
Members of Kong Chow Wui Koon were immigrants from Gangzhou, Guangdong. Gangzhou (or Kong Chow in Cantonese) is the old name for Xinhui. They brought with them their rich culture in lion dance, dragon dance, martial art and Cantonese opera, and these can still be found in the clan association today. They have also continued with their traditional practice of ancestor veneration, as is evident from the large ancestral tablet shrine.
Level 4 of the building is a shrine dedicated to Guan Di. On the same level is a rare 3-metre long Guan Broadsword made in 1889, which was donated by the seven prominent Xinui businessmen - Zhu You Lan, Lo Kee Seng, Zhu Guang Lan, Guang Heng, Zhu Fu Lan, Tong De and Lo Chi Seng. The Guan broadsword was named after its inventor Guan Di. An alternate name for this sword is Green Dragon Crescent Blade.
