Koon Seng Ting

Based on the stone stele at the main door, Koon Seng Ting (kun cheng tang) was founded in the year 1880, and was refurbished in 1905 and 1928. The temple is located at the foot of a hill known to the Chinese as Wan Shou Shan, which means Longevity Hill. Blessed by the hill's auspicious name, the temple managed to stay at the same location for more than a hundred years and in Nov 2013, URA announced that Koon Seng Ting will be conserved. The Yeo family (part of Hokkien Yeo See Association) used to own the Telok Blangah area, including the hill that this temple sits on. They also donated the land for its neighbour Kuan Im Tong.
Koon Seng Ting was founded as a vegetarian hall (zhai tang) for female orphans and zhi shu nu (women who took a vow of celibacy), and the first care taker was Teochew lady Madam Tay. When Penang Nonya Madam Chew took over, she rebuilt the temple and introduced western architectural features such as Peranakan tiles to the building. The care taker today is Madam Chua, a friendly 90 over years old lady who has been living in the temple since she was 3 years old.
There is a large statue of Guanyin at the front yard, which is a landmark in this area.
