Ping Ann Tung Association

  Introduction
The following introduction was contributed by Ping Ann Tung Association.

The Evolution / Origin of Ping Ann Tung Association
Well before the Seventies, an idol figurine craftsman in a Kampong at Lor. 29 Geylang Road, near the then wet market, created a portrait of the Goddess of Mercy with the intent for villagers to offer their prayers for peace and prosperity at a make-shift shrine. In 1976, due to the mystical divinity of the "Divine Enforcer" from the 3rd Court of Hell, Tua Ya Peh entrusted the worldly task with the Jade Emperor's Imperial Edit to a medium – Mr Tan Hong Lee to deliver salvation to devotees for 2 years. During the process of carrying out this divine task, URA’s resettlement plan caused the residents of the Kampong to be resettled. As there was no caretaker for the make-shift shrine, Mr Tan Hong Lee invited, through a ritual, the portrait of the Goddess of Mercy to his home for worship. Time flies and with the fulfilment of the 2 years salvation commitment, Mr Tan Hong Lee stopped his work as a medium for Tua Ya Peh. Ping Ann Tung’s humble beginning started in 1979 with a former lady devotee, seeking medical cure for her illness that had not recovered. Through divine intervention, the “Divine Enforcer” appeared in her dreams one night and advised her to obtain their Idols and the Divine Arm Chair, and seek an appropriate medium that is willing to be entrusted by Tua Ya Peh to cure her cancer. After numerous enquiries, the woman finally found Mr Tan Hong Lee who agreed to be entrusted again by the "Divine Enforcer" to deliver salvation. With Tua Yah Peh's help, the woman miraculously recovered from cancer. From then on, Mr Tan Hong Lee started a shrine in home at Aljunied under the name "Ping Ann Tung" – literally meaning Peace & Calmness (as advised by the "Divine Enforcer") with the mission of "Attaining Everlasting Jubilation through Salvation to all Earthly Humans and Cultivating Peace and Harmony to all". With the news of the cancer stricken devotee's recovery permeating, devotees from all walks of life, race and religion started to seek Tua Ya Peh's advice to solve their woes and problems. With the growing number of devotees, it was apparent that the small HDB flat could no longer accommodate the size. In 1980, Ping Ann Tung was relocated to a Zinc roof house beside the Katong Swimming Club to continue its mission of delivering salvation to its devotees. However, with an on-going enbloc development of the site for private housing, Tua Ya Peh directed one of the devotees living around Lor 3 Geylang to look for an alternative site for the temple. On his advice, a unit at Block 407 Lor 3 Geylang road was indeed available for sale. In 1982, with strong financial support from devotees, the unit at Block 1 No.407 Lor 3 Geylang was purchased. Tua Ya Peh, together with a group of volunteers, continues to help devotees from all walks of life, race, language or religion to address their woes and problems. Due to the huge number of devotees seeking help, consultation usually lend on wee hours of morning. The Goddess of Mercy also entrusted another medium to deliver salvation to devotees at Ping Ann Tung and consultation was held every first and fifteen of the lunar month. Ping Ann Tung was officially registered as an association on 12 May 1998 and was renamed as "Ping Ann Tung Association". In 2002, land around Lor 3 Geylang was acquired by the Government due to LTA's road development of the PIE. Ping Ann Tung fortunately with the strong financial support of all its devotees and volunteers managed to purchase a freehold unit at 24 Lor 25 Geylang Road, to allow devotees to have a permanent place of worship. On 29 June 2003, in conjunction with the God's anniversary celebration on the 30th day of the 5th Lunar month, Ping Ann Tung finally relocated to its current location, with which shall continue to bless the masses and do good deeds for the society.
