Wah Sua Keng

In 1934 Wah Sua Keng (hua shan gong) was founded in Bah Soon Pah by the Teochew and Hokkien communities, with land and monetary donations by 'pineapple king' and 'rubber magnate' Lim Nee Soon. In the 1980s the temple was affected by redevelopment and had to partner with Chu Siang Tong to build Chu Siang Wah Sua Temple, which was completed in 1987.
At the main entrance of the temple is a couplet created in memory of Lim Nee Soon. The first word on each side of the couplet are Wah and Soon, which together form the nickname of Lim Nee Soon.
Bah Soon Pah is located at Sembawang Road 11th milestone. The village was named after Lim Nee Soon, whose Peranakan name was Bah Soon. He was born in Singapore in 1879 and passed away in 1936 in Shanghai and was buried near Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing. Lim Nee Soon was a key person of Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary activities in South East Asia, actively involved in the Nanyang branch of Tong Meng Hui. He worked closely with Tan Chor Nam and Teo Eng Hock to setup United Chinese Library (reading club) and Chong Shing Yit Pao (newspaper) to promote revolutionary ideas.
